"Borrowed Angels" -- a beautiful ballad, performed as only Kristin can! I have a thread going over at the 'world's biggest website for musicians' HARMONY CENTRAL -- in the 'songwriting' folder of their 'forums' (clear as mud?) titled: "A Great Melody first, THEN the lyrics . . ." Budding young American songwriters haven't contributed much, but tune in daily to see which "great old song/great singer" we'll celebrate next. Last night, for the first time it was my "new favorite singer." I'd post the URL but that may not be allowed. So the text, before an embedded video (viewed only 300 times, the song Kristin sang is SO obscure) said this. Hope you enjoy. Thanks for being you, Kristin. The world would be a poorer place without you! (Everyone has someone) WHY CAN 'T I? Almost every time I turn on the TV these days, to watch a musical special, there, it seems, waiting for me is the delightful “Kristin Chenoweth” -- a pretty, petite, talented, “star of Broadway.” A moment ago Ms Chenoweth introduced me over at YouTube, to a 'new' song by my favorite composer Richard Rodgers! Somehow I'd gotten through life without ever hearing, WHY CAN'T I? -- which Ms Chenoweth sings in medley with NOBODY'S HEART. What DID we do before search engines? According to Google . . . “Why Can't I?” was introduced in a (1929) Rodgers & Hart Broadway musical that was named after its more famous show-stopper, “Spring is Here,” -- which became a standard; while the forgotten WHY CAN'T I? wasn't performed again until its recycling, 20 years later, in the movie version of “Jumbo” featuring Rodgers & Hart songs from various shows. The sentiment of the Larry Hart lyric segues so well from out of “Nobody's Heart” you might think they were two parts of the same song. An inspired combination by Ms Chenoweth that Rodgers & Hart would have loved! [embedded video here] Feeling the way I do, I'd like to say, "I do!" Heaving a heavenly sigh. Everybody has someone; Why can't I? Creeping to bed alone, Resting my head alone, Only the pillow nearby. Some have a reason for dreaming; Why can't I? [bridge] I feel forsaken On nights like this. Can't I awaken To someone's kiss? Only my book in bed Knows how I look in bed. Nobody hears when I cry. Everybody has someone; Why can't I? [Mark Blackburn, Winnipeg Canada]
